Trophy Guitar Straps Review

Trophy Guitar Straps Review

Trophy Guitar Straps was started in 2011 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and they take pride in making all their guitar straps right in the city, employing local workers.

…I would recommend them, especially if you’re looking for a durable strap with an eye catching design…

Purchasing a guitar strap is personal; everything from the colours and pattern, through to the materials and specification. For some, looks are the priority, whereas for others, comfort, durability and cost are the deciding factors.

About Trophy Guitar Straps

Glenn Boren is one of the key personnel behind Trophy Guitar Straps. Glenn started the company after spending seven years as a touring and recording musician, he operated a recording studio for several years, owned a music store and eventually settled on the online selling of musical accessories and parts, and now, of course, manufacturing Trophy Guitar Straps.

Guitar Jar caught up with Glenn to find out more about the history and vision of the company. “We saw a need for not only a better strap, but a line of straps that encompasses the past, present and future of the guitar.” Glenn continues, “Many of our 65+ models of straps are made from vintage fabric and as such, are Limited Editions. Others are made from current production fabrics of classic iconic symbols, and others feature the new, cutting edge designs of modern textile artists”.

Glenn is clearly passionate that the appearance and aesthetic design of the strap remains true to traditional cultural designs and heritage. “From the very start our interest has been not only the beauty and style of guitar straps, but also the anthropological origins.” says Glenn. “That is why we have chosen to make straps, for example, using the Greek Key design, the Egyptian Griffin, Maori Masks, and the Indian Cultural Icon of the Pink Elephant”.

Durability and reliability are also at the forefront of the Trophy Guitar Strap vision. Glenn adds “We chose cotton because of the comfort, durability and it’s availability as a renewable and natural resource. It just feels better.”

Pink Elephants

Trophy Guitar StrapsI recently received my personal choice of the Trophy “Pink Elephant” Guitar Strap. The design is bright, intricate and looks good. No doubt the other straps in the range reflect these characteristics.

The leather ends are thick and secure the guitar well. However, I’m overly paranoid about guitar straps becoming loose over time, so I promptly fitted a spare set Schaller Straplocks I had lying around.

These were fairly easy to fit, but because the Trophy straps are very well made (using a considerable amount of leather at the ends compared to my cheaper Planet Waves alternative) you may need to be fairly patient when applying straplocks.

In truth, you will probably not need to fit straplocks, but I’m overly paranoid after a couple of “drops” I’ve experienced when using cheaper straps from alternative manufacturers.

Overall Rating:

The Pink Elephant strap from Trophy Guitar Straps is attractive, well made and strong. I would definitely recommend them, especially if you’re looking for a durable strap with an eye catching design.

One suggestion I would make to Trophy Guitar Straps is the option to purchase a shoulder pad. I suffer quite badly from aching shoulders (especially after playing guitar) so the option to include a fitted shoulder pad to the strap would be a nice bonus.

Trophy Guitar Straps are available primarily through their website, but can also be found on eBay and in the Pacific Rim from Montreux Guitars.

  • Looks like a poor copy of a Souldier handmade guitar strap. Souldier even restores straps for the rock hall of fame. They have tons of color combos to build your own custom guitar strap. If Eric Clapton and Johnny Marr are using them, then make mine Souldier
