Avalon L340 Acoustic Guitar Review

Having (unusually it seems) learnt to play the guitar on an electric I soon after had the desire to find a decent acoustic. After slowly improving on some cheap sub-standard guitars I found quite possibly my lifelong guitar! Having browsed eBay for a long time I came across the Avalon when I was living in London – a very generous and wealthy entrepreneur sold me the guitar for a fraction of its worth.

It seems as though Avalon don’t actually produce the L340 anymore, so if you see one… buy one!

Features:

  • Quilted Maple Back and Sides
  • Stika Spruce Top
  • Maple, Rosewood Neck
  • Sycamore, Rosewood Bindings
  • Abalone, Rosewood, Sycamore, Mahogany Rosette
  • Ebony Fingerboard

Ease of use:

I think this guitar is perfect – the jumbo body gives an incredibly full sound which is perfect for both bringing out a full bass and really ringing out the higher notes.

Sound quality:

Awesome! One of the best acoustics you will ever hear. I’ve never heard an acoustic sound as good!

Reliability:

Never let me down!

Overall rating:

If you have a spare £3k kicking around or are looking for an acoustic which really lives up to expectations and will never need to replace, the L340 is definitely the way forward!

  • They’re a load of rubbish!

  • Ha Ha! Mate, for 3K, that’s got to be one hell of a guitar. Does it have an acoustic pickup?

  • I detect a hint of jealousy Steve!!!!
It is worth all the tea in china (3k’s worth!) but luckily I paid a fraction of the amount of tea in china!
It has the LR Baggs M1A which I installed myself, Steve also has this pickup…so he can’t complain about that!
I did have the K&K pure western mini but I found that it wasn’t bringing out the true sound of the guitar, more of a muted sound!

  • for 3 k can i drive it
