Zager ZAD80CE Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

I have been playing for 17 years. Not professionally or anything, but I consider my skill level to be intermediate now.

…the Zager is definitely becoming my new favorite…

Zager ZAD80CE Acoustic Electric GuitarI have owned a higher-end Taylor since 1991, and I bought a mid-range Ovation in 2007.

Both guitars are good, but I didn’t know what I was missing until I bought the Zager on a whim last spring.

I had been surfing around on Ebay looking for a hidden deal of some sort when I came across the EZ Play name.

My current guitars were starting to take a toll on my hands and I had to admit they weren’t the easiest to play. Oddly enough my cousin had also heard of the name Zager, so we dug in together to find out more info.

About 2 weeks after finding Zager I had my new 80CE. I am in fact a super fan of these guitars now.

Features:

The features are everything I would want in a high-end guitar by Martin or Taylor.

The cutaway body, extra inlay around the face, gold tuners, high glossy finish, adjustable truss rod, zipper detail on back, and the Fishman Presys electronics system.

I have always liked Fishman, so it was a great detail that added to my initial purchase. The built in tuner is way too convenient as well.

Ease of use:

Ease of use is 50% better than my other guitars. Exactly what I wanted and needed.

I feel like when I first got good at playing! LOL. My playing is faster and clearer and it feels great to be playing well again… if not better.

The neck is so comfy on this guitar. My friends love it too. And my cousin who initially was looking at Zagers ended up getting an 80CE after he played mine when it arrived.

It’s his first guitar, and he is doing really well with his playing. He decided to splurge on his first guitar, but even their lower end ZAD20s have the same playability as the 80CEs.

Sound Quality:

It has a groovy deep tone. The cedar is a great choice for this sound of music. I love the sound and it just gets better with age. Nice and loud, and the sustain and clarity is so nice!

Reliability:

I believe this guitar will stand the test of time. It does not have a 3 year, 10 year warranty; it has a lifetime warranty. That says a lot right there. The electronics have never failed me.

Overall Rating:

Although the brand Zager is not a top 5 brand name (yet!) they are still awesome guitars and the quality is right up there.

It’s like a diamond in the rough… I’m writing this review to others like me who wanted a new, easier playing guitar. I can imagine beginners would have a hay-day with the easiness of the neck.

You’re getting a lifelong instrument when you buy a Zager.

I still enjoy playing my Taylor and rarely my Ovation but the Zager is definitely becoming my new favorite.

My plan is to sell the Ovation and get a Zager I can take to the cabin.
